Hedi Slimane is a French-born designer and photographer, living In LA. His vision of Rock'n'Roll culture emerged from his lifestyle. He enjoys company of famous people from the music industry, where some of them are faces of his fashion campaigns (like Marilyn Manson, The Kills, Frances Bean Cobain etc.) . He spends time photographing models destroying themselves on punk-rock gigs in LA.
Slimane is now a creative director of "Saint Laurent", a famous name, which Slimane recreated with his slim, edgy, junkie-like silhouette. He takes what's best from every decade of Rock'n'Roll and alternative culture, and makes statement pieces out of it. One of his latest collections, for example, is a tribute to grunge scene of Seattle and to Cobain of Nirvana. Huge white-framed sunglasses, like the ones Cobain wore on one of the most famous photograph of Nirvana, were the most prominent accessories on the catwalk.
His French heritage plays a great role in his design and collections, as well as in his photography, where everything is laid back and cool, styled to the maximum with the most sophisticated details, as well as the most cheap-looking ones. Glamorous fur and leather are combined with destroyed and ripped garments, which represents the diversity of Rock'n'Roll's rebellious nature.
Through his designing work, he covered almost all of the Rock'n'Roll styles and subcultures, through all the decades, beginning with the 60's, when Yves started his fashion revolution. Slimane continued where Yves stopped, contributing to alternative culture through one of the most famous fashion company in the world.
